The current OpenServer Release (since quite a while) is Release 5.0.7
Major enhancements were accomplished in terms of support for modern
hardware technologies, not available in older Releases.

OpenServer 5.0.7 is binarycompatible to the older OpenServer Releases.
Applications written for OpenServer are running on OpenServer 5.0.7 as well.

Many new or enhanced drivers are available for OpenServer 5.0.7.
GigaBit network cards are supported as well as pci serial cards, new
video cards or new SCSI controllers. (like Ultra320)

All maintenance packs and escalation fixes for older releases are incorporated
into OpenServer 5.0.7.

New for release 5.0.7 is the Update Service.This service is optional but gives
you a large number of additional benefits:
- the next OpenServer Release (codename: Legend) is includesd without
  any additional licensing costs !
- new Features are provide in so called Update Packs over the year. You
  don't need to wait for them until the next major release of OpenServer.
