Mobility Services from SCO - Introduction
SCO has introduced a new series of products for mobile business. The usage of mobile devices such as smart phones is a growing opportunity for our business partners. The underlying technology is called EdgeClick. This Newsletter introduces this new SCO technology. We will show this technology on many of the upcoming events and you will hear much more about in from now on.

Mobility Services from SCO - EdgeClick Overview
With EdgeClick you can get access to your existing application from a smart phone.
 
SCO has already implemented samples for customers such as a mobile Order entry system where your Sales people retrieve customer data, find a product or place an order from their smart phone by connecting thru the SCO EdgeClick Server to their existing application.

EdgeClick includes the Edge Processor software component.

The Edge Processor provides:

Directory Services, Database and System Catalogue, Groupware Services, Web Server, Application Server, Enterprise Service Bus.

EdgeClick is

  • a Services Oriented Architecture
  • a subscription business model, provisioned through Solution Providers
  • targeted at third party applications taking advantage of mobile devices for connectivity
  • a network of Edge Processors, linked in a service grid for servicing, provisioning, and business to business interaction.

Here are some more FAQ's:

Does anybody needs a smart phone in order to use SCO digital Services?
As an Account Owner / paying Customer of SCO EdgeClick / MeInc you need at least ONE smart phone in order to actively use the MeInc services. (e.g. in order to send a shout message). All your contacts (Receivers of Shouts, Vote, ...) get the message by email. The email links them to a webpage that includes the Shout message as well as your company branding information. We also will support a full Web Client which means you need no smart phone at all. Currently we already support limited sending of Shout Voicemessages from the EdgeClick Portal (QuickShout) However,  usage of a smart phone adds the mobility feature in fact.

What smart phones are currently supported?
At the moment we support the Palm Treo 650 smart phone. However, other smart phones with Windows mobile OS or Symbian OS will be supported soon.

What will an SCO EdgeClick account look like?

MeInc/EdgeClick services will have a single sign-on within a Community on the edgeclickpark.com Portal. E.g. a Company ACE will have the ace.edgeclickpark.com community and will login at http://ace.edgeclickpark.com in order to manage contacts, groups, preferences etc.

How can we, as a SCO EdgeClick customer make money from using SCO digital Services - EdgeClick?
Clearly, if you offer an EdgeClick solution to your customers, that means increased mobility support, better control of business processes etc. E.g. we offer a HipCheck mobility service that allows to monitor your servers from your smart phone, while you are on the road. You might be able to sell the mobilization of your customers existing applications by implementing access from a smart phone via EdgeClick.

How can we, as a SCO EdgeClick customer make money from using SCO digital Services - MeInc?
The current MeInc digital Services Shout and Vote are ideal for enhanced direct marketing. You will get better feedback and response and can stay in closer (more personal) contact with your customers, friends, registered users, etc. That's why we have a lot of interest for these services from the Entertainment, Sports, ... industries. You can send a personal voice message from whereever you are to a large group of contacts. Immediatly. Real time. Very uptodate. This gives you new methods of catching interest and create revenue opportunities.

How can we, as a SCO MeInc Reseller make money?
We have implemented a MeInc Sales Agent program (MISA). The Me Inc. Sales Agent Program is an ideal way for individuals and organizations to earn lucrative recurring commissions. Read more at: http://www.edgeclickpark.com/sap.html

How can we, as a SCO EdgeClick Reseller make money?
We will introduce the EdgeClick Solution Provider Program, through which SCO will enable solution providers to sell, provision, bill and support innovative new wireless and broadband subscription services. The EdgeClick service family allows for the integration of third party applications in individual accounts.  Stay tuned for more information about this soon.

What is the EdgeClick Park Web portal for?  (www.edgeclickpark.com)
The portal is not only the place were EdgeClick customer's login in order to manage their contacts, groups or preferences for the MeInc digital services. In addition, the portal will allow:
  • Consumers and businesses can find cool new digital services for mobile communications, collaboration, and control in the Me Inc. Mobility Center.
  • Companies of all sizes can get the tools and services they need to add mobile access to existing applications and databases and create new digital services.
  • Wireless and broadband product and service providers can reach a growing population of new high-value customers and markets on the EdgeClick network.
  • EdgeClick Digital Service Providers can sell, provision, bill and support innovative new wireless and broadband subscription services.
  • EdgeClick Digital Infrastructure Providers can reach new global markets with advanced network control, management, and connection solutions and services.
  • The EdgeClick Park Developer Pavilion will be the place to go for everything from architectural overviews to programming libraries, API definitions, and set up instructions.
