Java1.4.2 Run the latest Java applications on Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) from Sun Microsystems(R) (version 1.4.2). The new J2SE support includes runtime and development components for communicating with serial devices (javax.comm), Web services (javasoap), and Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages (Tomcat). User-Level Threads Run user-level threaded applications developed with the SCO UNIX Development Kit (UDK). When developed with the UDK, the application will run on SCO OpenServer and UnixWare. Core Feature Details -------------------- CD Recording ------------ SCO OpenServer 5.0.7 includes the popular cdrecord tools. With cdrecord, users can create their own CD's on the SCO OpenServer platform. CD Multi-session Support Support for multi-session CDs has been added to SCO OpenServer 5.0.7. This feature works with cdrecord to allow users to read/write multiple logical data streams on a single CD. Administrators benefit from being able to backup data to writable CD-ROM drives. Enhanced Web Browsing --------------------- SCO OpenServer 5.0.7 includes support for Mozilla 1.6, named the best browser of 2003 by PC World Magazine. New features to this Mozilla release includes: Tabbed browsing gives you a better way to surf the net. You no longer have to open one page at a time. With tabbed browsing, open several pages at once with one click. Now your home page can be multiple-tabbed pages. Popup blocker lets you surf the Web without intrusion. Advanced popup blocker notifies you when popups are blocked. You can also block pop-ups on a site-per- site basis. Image manager lets you block offensive images or speed up the rendering of Web sites. Find as you type gives you another way to navigate a page. Just start typing to jump from link to link or to find a word or phrase within a page. PDF support is now provided for Mozilla via the xpdf extension. Just click on a PDF document and it will automatically load inside the browser. Composer, Mozilla's HTML editor, keeps getting better with dynamic image and table resizing, quick table cell modifying, improved CSS support, and positioned layer support. For quick editing and Web site projects, Composer is all you need. OpenServer developers benefit from the latest Java interfaces that improve application user interfaces and provide more powerful application programming interfaces. End-users benefit immediately as well, because they can immediately deploy applications developed with the latest version of Java on the SCO OpenServer platform. New Java components have been added to SCO OpenServer 5.0.7. These provide the ability to communicate with serial devices through the javax.comm-class libraries, as well as the ability to develop applications that communicate over the network with Web services via the javasoap-class libraries. In addition, SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 introduces Tomcat to SCO OpenServer. With Tomcat, SCO OpenServer developers have access to the official Reference Implementation of the Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages technologies for developing Web-based applications. Tomcat eases the development and deployment of commercial- quality, server-side solutions for the Java 2 platform on SCO OpenServer. User-Level Threads Support -------------------------- The supplement to the SCO OpenServer 5.0.7 release provides full support for threads- based applications developed with the UNIX Development Kit (UDK). This support, though uniprocessor in nature, provides a complete threads implementation including modifications to the kernel to support full thread locking semantics.
