  The JavaTM 2, Standard Edition (J2SE), version 5.0 for OpenServer 6 and UnixWare 7.1.4
The JavaTM 2, Standard Edition (J2SE), version 5.0, update 06 supplement for UnixWare 7.14 and OpenServer 6 is a major new release compared to the previous J2SE 1.4.2.  
The new J2SE 5.0 release is focused on the following key themes:

Ease of Development
This new release includes changes to generic types, metadata, autoboxing, an enhanced for loop, enumerated types, static import, C style formatted input/output, variable arguments, concurrency utilities, and simpler RMI interface generation.

Scalibility and Performance
The 5.0 release delivers improvements in scalability and performance, with a focus on startup time and memory footprint, to make it easier to deploy applications running at top speed.

Monitoring and Manageability
The J2SE 5.0 release provides comprehensive monitoring and management support: instrumentation to observe the Java virtual machine, Java Management Extensions (JMX) framework, and remote access protocols. All this is ready to be used out-of-the-box.

Desktop Client
The Java Desktop client remains a key component of the Java platform and as such has been significantly improved in J2SE 5.0.

The JavaTM 2, Standard Edition (J2SE), version 5.0, update 06 supplement for SCO® UNIX® Operating Systems contains:
  • the Java 2 Runtime Environment, which allows SCO UNIX end users to run Java applets and applications on SCO UNIX operating systems
  • the Java 2 Software Development Kit (J2SDK), which enables SCO UNIX OEMs, ISVs, and end users to develop Java applets and applications that conform to the Java 2 Core API
  • the Java 2 Plug-in for Mozilla browsers released with UnixWare 7.1.4 and OpenServer 6.0.0
J2SE 5.0 for SCO UNIX is a full implementation of the Sun MicrosystemsTM Java 2 Platform - the technology and environment described in the SunTM specifications of the Java 2 Standard Edition, 5.0 update 06.
